The study of its reproductive ecology and embryology is of great significance for a better understanding of the propagation and growth mechanism of the plant. The process of megasporogenesis and microsporogenesis is one of the important reproductive processes of plants. This study aimed to investigate the process of megasporogenesis and microsporogenesis in Danshen and the embryonic development of the plant. Optical and electron microscopy were used to observe the samples, and cytological and anatomical analyses were performed through tissue sectioning and staining techniques. Our results showed that the process of megasporogenesis and microsporogenesis in Danshen was similar to other herbaceous plants, but the pollen morphology of Danshen was different from that of other herbaceous plants. In addition, the embryonic development process of Danshen was unique, including many stages such as the development of endosperm and embryo axis, heart period, and sheath period.
