Such decisions can be taken with little forethought but in most organizations are facilitated by a strategic planning process. The purpose of this course is to introduce and explore the range of models and analytical techniques that are available to support the strategic planning process, decision-making and the management of decision implementation. The course starts with a model of the strategic planning process itself that identifies the essential elements of a strategic planning process and is then uses as an organizing framework for the models and analytical techniques. The topics covered by the lectures include strategic thinking, pro-active strategic decision-making process, SWOT analysis, net assessment, game theory, dynamic planning, scenario development, risk analysis, and crisis management.
