5-1-4 教案 Cultural corner + Speaking and writing尚志市逸夫学校 宋蕾Teaching Aims:Target language: add, in favor of, present, refer to….as, attempt, simplify, combination, thanks toAbility objectives: Guide the students to get detailed information for the writing. Activate the students’ knowledge about different varieties of languages.Learning strategies: Teach students the right steps of writing a composition.Teaching aids: Multi-mediaTeaching Procedures:Step 1 Revision 1 Question: What are the differences between British and American English? Give some examples.2 Read the notes in Activity 1 in Page 8 and answer : What do you think is he best variety of English to learn? Why? (Discuss in group and every group has a writer to report the discussion later.) (Review vocabulary and how to give reasons.)Step 2 Cultural corner1 Ask the students to read the passage and answer the questions in Page 9.2 Present some important language points on the paper in form of sentences with key words and phrases in them. After class they must conclude the important usage of words and phrases.Important language points:Vocabulary:1 add 2 in favor of 3 present 5refer to….as 6 simplify 7 combination 8 thanks toSentences:1 The Elementary Spelling Book, Suggested simplifying the spelling of English words.2 By the 1850s it was selling one million copies a year, making it one of the most popular school books ever.Step 3 Writing1 Do Activity 3 in Page 8 and then talk about the other two titles.2 Activity 4. Divide the students into three groups to discuss. Each group for one topic about the Chinese language. One writer in each group to write down some key words about the discussion and write them down on the blackboard later.3 Ask another student in another group to combine sentences for Chinese language by using the key words on the blackboard.4 Write a passage for the Chinese language including the topic discussed before this, such as, the origin of Chinese, the writing system, varieties of Chinese and so on.Material about the Chinese language:1 Chinese is spoken by more people than other language in the world.2 Chinese has more than twice the number of speakers of English, though of course it lacks the universality of English and is spoken by few people not of Chinese origin. Chinese has been an official language of the Unites Nations since the founding of the organization in 1945.3 Though Chinese has many dialects, Mandarin, based on the pronunciation of Beijing, is considered the standard and is spoken by about two-thirds of the population.4 Chinese is written with thousands of distinctive characters called ideographs which most of the times have little relation to the sound of a word.5 The earliest Chinese characters were pictographs, such as a crescent for the moon, or a circle with a dot in the center to represent the sun.Step 4 HomeworkTry searching for some more information about language changes on the Internet, and make some notes.
