Firstly, the basic concepts of biodiversity assessment and the importance in reserve selection and management were introduced. Then the basic principles and application process of CVM method were elaborated, and the application of CVM method in the case study was analyzed and discussed in detail. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of CVM method in the assessment of biodiversity in ethnic areas were summarized, and future research directions and prospects were proposed.Keywords:CVM; biodiversity; Leigongshan Nature Reserve; ethnic areas; assessment
