One of its interesting decay channels is J/ψ → ρηπ, which involves strange quarks and provides insight into the QCD dynamics of hadrons. The J/ψ meson is a bound state of a charm quark and its antiquark, and its decays involve strong interactions. Therefore, studying J/ψ → ρηπ provides insights into phenomena such as quark confinement, chiral symmetry breaking, and resonance formation in QCD.The goal of this research project is to study the J/ψ → ρηπ decay channel and search for the elusive J/ψ → ρηπ intermediate state. To accomplish this, we will analyze data from the BESIII experiment, which was designed to study the properties of charmonium states and their decays.MethodologyWe will use the BESIII experiment data to study the J/ψ → ρηπ decay channel. The BESIII detector is located at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII) and consists of a small-angle electromagnetic calorimeter, a large-angle time-of-flight system, a muon detector, and a superconducting solenoidal magnet. The BESIII experiment has collected data from e+e- collisions at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.77 GeV to 4.6 GeV.We will analyze the data collected by the BESIII detector using a Monte Carlo simulation and a maximum likelihood fit. Monte Carlo simulations are computer models that simulate the physics of a particle interaction in a virtual environment. Maximum likelihood fits are statistical techniques used to extract the parameters of a physical process from experimental data.ResultsThe results of this research project will be twofold. First, we will study the J/ψ → ρηπ decay channel and provide insights into the QCD dynamics of hadrons. Second, we will search for the J/ψ → ρηπ intermediate state, which has not been observed before.
