The etiology of pleural effusion can be determined by clinical history, physical examination, radiological tests, and cytological analysis of pleural fluid. In some cases, it can be challenging to differentiate between malignant and benign pleural effusions. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical value of MDIG in the diagnosis of malignant and benign pleural effusions.Method: The study will be conducted on patients with pleural effusion admitted to the hospital between January 2024 and December 2024. All patients will undergo thoracentesis, and pleural fluid will be collected for MDIG and cytological analysis. The patients will be divided into two groups: malignant pleural effusion and benign pleural effusion. The levels of MDIG in the pleural fluid of these two groups will be compared using the Wilcoxon Rank-Sum Test. The sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value, and positive predictive value of MDIG will be calculated. The data will be analyzed using SPSS software.Expected Results: We expect that MDIG will have a higher level in malignant pleural effusion than in benign pleural effusion. We also anticipate that MDIG will have a high specificity and positive predictive value in distinguishing malignant and benign pleural effusion. Conclusion: This study will provide valuable clinical evidence for the diagnosis of malignant and benign pleural effusion. If MDIG is found to be a useful diagnostic marker, it could be used to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and guide the appropriate treatment of patients with pleural effusion.
