In order to meet the needs of the job market, many universities offer courses in specialized English to improve students' ability to communicate in their future profession.As one of the challenging and quickly developing disciplines, economics has its own specialized English vocabulary, grammar, and text types, which requires specific teaching and learning approaches.Central China Normal University (CCNU) offers an English for Economics course for undergraduate students majoring in economics. Based on my own experience of taking this course, I find that the course is not very effective in improving students' English proficiency, especially in speaking and writing skills. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the teaching practice and explore the possible reasons for these problems.Objectives and Research Questions:This research aims to investigate the teaching practice of the English for Economics course at CCNU, and to reflect on the problems and potential solutions. Specifically, the research questions are:1. What are the current teaching methods and materials used in the English for Economics course at CCNU?2. What are the students' attitudes towards the current teaching methods and materials?3. What improvements can be made in the teaching practice to enhance the students' proficiency in specialized English in economic context?Methodology:This research will employ a mixed-methods approach, comprising of both quantitative and qualitative methods. For the quantitative part, a survey will be conducted among the students who are taking the English for Economics course, to collect data on their attitudes towards the current teaching methods and materials, and their difficulties in learning specialized English. For the qualitative part, interviews will be conducted with the instructors to gain insights into their teaching methods and materials, and their reflections on the current situation and possible improvements.Expected Outcomes:The research results are expected to provide valuable insights into the teaching practice of specialized English in economics, and to identify the problems and potentials for improvement. The findings will contribute to the enhancement of the students' proficiency in specialized English, and provide suggestions for the future teaching practice of the English for Economics course at CCNU.
