The correct usage of synonyms has a great impact on the language expression ability of Chinese learners. However, due to the small internal differences of synonyms, Chinese learners are prone to confusion when learning synonyms, which further affects the quality of oral and written expression. Therefore, this paper proposes to apply the theory of semantic component analysis to the teaching of synonyms to improve students' understanding and application ability of synonyms. Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concepts and practical applications of semantic component analysis theory, and then analyzes the internal differences and semantic characteristics of synonyms, thus systematically analyzing how to use semantic component analysis theory to categorize and generalize synonyms. Through examples, this paper illustrates how teachers can guide students to classify and operate synonyms based on semantic component analysis theory in teaching. Finally, this paper summarizes the implications and significance of semantic component analysis theory and synonym teaching.Keywords: semantic component analysis; synonyms; teaching
