This research aims to synthesize a series of ferrocene-based Schiff bases and their corresponding metal (Cu, Co, Ni) complexes, and investigate their antibacterial properties against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The synthetic route involves the condensation reaction of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde with various aromatic or heterocyclic amines to produce Schiff base ligands. The ligands will then be complexed with Cu(II), Co(II), or Ni(II) ions to form stable metal complexes. The synthesis and characterization of the Schiff base ligands and metal complexes will be performed using techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and melting point determination. Antibacterial activity will be evaluated by the disc diffusion method against selected bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) will also be determined. The results will be compared with standard antibiotics to evaluate the effectiveness of the synthesized compounds. The expected outcome of this research is to provide new insights into the antibacterial properties of ferrocene-based Schiff base and metal complexes, and to explore their potential as novel antibacterial agents.
