IntroductionCollaborative learning has become a popular teaching approach in recent years. It is characterized by students working together to solve problems, complete tasks, or produce output. Collaborative learning is believed to enhance students’ learning outcomes, develop their social skills, and promote their metacognitive abilities. English writing, as a complex and demanding academic skill, can benefit from the application of collaborative learning. However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of collaborative learning in English writing among high-school students. This study aims to explore the impact of collaborative learning on the writing performance and attitudes of high-school students in China.2. Research QuestionsThe study will address the following research questions:1. What is the effect of collaborative learning on the writing performance of high-school students in English?2. What is the effect of collaborative learning on the attitudes of high-school students towards English writing?3. Research DesignThe study will use a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, control-group design. A total of 60 high-school students from two classes will be recruited for the study. They will be randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control group, with 30 students in each group. Both groups will receive the same pre-test on English writing before the intervention.
