Ever since the Han court sent Zhang Qian to the western regions,, the Han dynasty had began to learn more about its neighboring regions. In the Tang Dynasty, the Central Plains ethnic groups progressed in better understanding its surrounding nations. For example, foreign food was exposed to areas within the Han nation and accepted by Central Plains, which shows close communication between the people of the Central Plains and the other neighboring ethnicities, as each nation began to merge into one big family. Learning from each other and absorbing the advantages from each others' lifestyles, ethnic relations grew intimate and harmony gradually .
