In the Ming Dynasty, there exists a legendary group of four scholars in the south of China. They are Tong Bak Fu, 祝枝山 and 文征明 周文宾 whose literary and artistic skills are unmatched in China. Among their four, Tong Bak Fu is most famous, for his expertise as an artist, poet, and writer.During an outing with the other scholars, Tong meet Chow Heung (Gong Li), one of the four maids in the House of Wah, who is renowned for her beauty. Tong believes that he has finally found his true love, and he decides to act as a servant in the House of Wah. No one in the house of Wah know his true identity. Though Tong saves the House of Wah, he reveals his real identity to Madame Wah, who is the enemy of Tong's mother.So she put Tong in poison. After Several days,the Evil Scholar returns to revenge House of Wah. Madame Wah is almost killed in the process. Suddenly, Tong appears. After a fierce battle, Tong kills the Evil Scholar and earns Chow Heung's hand in marriage as a reward. Madame Wah puts on a game to test Tong's love for Chow Heung. She selects several girls to act as his bride who are in the same dress and with covers on their face, if Tong can point out the real bride without asking and touching,he will marry with Chow Heung.Finally, he wins the game and marry with his dream lover.
