AbstractChinese poetry is the essence of language and crystallization of Chinese traditional culture. With China’s rising international status, spreading Chinese culture, especially classical Chinese poems, becomes particularly important in a globalizing world. It carries a big weight in spreading classical Chinese culture. However, it is hard to understand Chinese poems from the English version due to different abundant cultural backgrounds, historical and many others elements. This thesis focuses on the losses of original cultural, and tries to find out translation strategy of poetry, categories of cultural losses and their compensation for these losses.
