This study aims to conduct a pragmatic analysis of the language use strategies adopted by Chinese news spokespeople in relation to the U.S. in 2024.Research QuestionsThis study seeks to answer the following research questions:1. What are the main language use strategies adopted by Chinese news spokespeople in relation to the U.S. in 2024?2. How do the identified language use strategies contribute to achieving the speakers’ communicative goals in this context?3. What are the implications of these strategies for cross-cultural communication between China and the U.S.?Literature ReviewPragmatics is a subfield of linguistics that studies how language is used in context to achieve specific communication goals. As opposed to semantics, which studies the meaning of words and their relationships in a sentence, pragmatics focuses on how context affects the interpretation of meaning.
