HCY, MMP-9, and TIMP-1 are three proteins expressed by homocysteine, matrix metalloproteinase-9, and tissue inhibitory metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), which are closely related to carotid atherosclerosis and plaque stability. Therefore, this article will review the relationship between the imbalance of HCY, MMP-9, and TIMP-1 and the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaques, and explore its pathological and physiological mechanisms to provide relevant theoretical basis for early intervention and treatment.Keywords: stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaques, HCY, MMP-9, TIMP-1, imbalance
