The study of the interactions between each element in the alloy and their effects on phase equilibrium can help optimize the composition and performance of the alloy. This paper investigates the effect of Zn addition on the phase equilibrium of Mg-Gd-Y series alloys, and studies the changes in phase composition and phase relationships in the alloy under different Zn addition amounts by heat treatment, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The results show that the Zn addition has a certain influence on the phase composition and phase relationship in the alloy. With the increase of Zn content, the grain size of the alloy changes little, but the hardness and tensile strength increase while the fracture toughness decreases.Keywords: Mg-Gd-Y series alloy; Zn addition; phase equilibrium; performance optimization.
