林肯第二次就职演说*secondinauguraladdressbyabrahamlincolnmarch4,1865#林肯第二次就职演说(1865年3月4日)fellow-countrymenatthissecondappearingtotaketheoathofthepresidentialofficethereislessoccasionforanextendedaddressthantherewasatthefirst.thenastatementsomewhatindetailofacoursetobepursuedseemedfittingandproper.now,attheexpirationoffouryears,duringwhichpublicdeclarationshavebeenconstantlycalledforthoneverypointandphaseofhisgreatcontestwhichstillabsorbstheattentionandengrossestheenergiesofthenation,littlethatisnewcouldbepresented.theprogressofourarms,uponwhichallelsechieflydepends,isaswellknowntothepublicastomyself,anditis,itrust,reasonablysatisfactoryandencouragingtoall.withhighhopeforthefuture,nopredictioninregardtoitisventured.ontheoccasioncorrespondingtothisfouryearsagoallthoughtswereanxiouslydirectedtoanimpendingcivilwar.alldreadedit;allsoughttoavertit.whiletheinauguraladdresswasbeingdeliveredfromthisplace,devotedaltogethertosavingteingdeliveredfromthisurgentagentswereinthecityseekingtodestroyitwithoutwar-seekingtodissolvetheunionanddivideeffectsbynegotiation.bothpartiesdeprecatedwar,butoneofthemwouldmakewarratherthanletthenationsurvive,andtheotherwouldacceptwarratherthanletitperish,andthewarcame.one-eighthofthewholepopulationwerecoloredslaves,notdistributedgenerallyovertheunion,butlocalizedinthesouthernpartofit.theirslavesconstitutedapeculiarandpowerfulinterest.allknewthatthisinterestwassomehowthecauseofthewar.tostrengthen,perpetuate,andextendthisinterestwastheobjectforwhichtheinsurgentswouldrendtheunionevenbywar,whilethegovernmentclaimednorighttodomorethantorestricttheterritorialenlargementofit.neitherpartyexpectedforthewarthemagnitudeortheduration,whichithasalreadyattained.neitheranticipatedthatthecauseoftheconflictmightceasewithorevenbeforetheconflictitselfshouldcease.eachlookedforaneasiertriumph,andaresultlessfundamentalandastounding.bothreadthesamebibleandpraytothesamegod,andeachinvokeshisaidagainsttheother.itmayseemstrangethatanymenshoulddaretoaskajustgod'sassistanceinwringingtheirbreadfromthesweatofothermen'sfaces,butletusjudgenot,thatwebenotjudged.thatofneitherhasbeenansweredfully.thealmightyhashisownpurposes."woeuntotheworldbecauseofoffenses;foritmustneedbethatoffensescome,butwoetothatmanbywhomtheoffensecomet."ifweshallsupposethatamericanslaveryisoneofthoseoffenseswhich,intheprovidenceofgod,mustneedscome,butwhich,havingcontinuedthroughhisappointedtime,henowwillstoremove,andthathegivestobothnorthandsouththisterriblewarasthewoeduetothosebywhomtheoffensecame,shallwediscernthereinanydeparturefromthosedivineattributeswhichthebelieversinalivinggodalwaysascribetohim?fondlydowehope,ferventlydowepraythatthismightyscourgeofwarmayspeedilypassaway?yet,ifgodwillsthatitcontinueuntilallthewealthpiledbythebondsman'stwohundredandfiftyyearsofunrequitedtoilshallbesunk,anduntileverydropofblooddrawnwiththelashshallbepaidbyanotherdrawnwiththesword,aswassaidthreethousandyearsagosostillitmustbesaid"thejudgmentsofthelordaretrueandrighteousaltogether."withmalicetowardnone,withcharityforall,withfirmnessintherightasgodgivesustoseethemight,letusstriveontofinishtheworkwearein,tobindupthenation'swounds,tocareforhimwhoshallhavebornethebattleandforhiswidowandhisorphan,todoallwhichmayachieveandcherishajustandlastingpeaceamongourselvesandwithallnations.各位同胞在这第二任就职的宣誓典礼上,不...
