Reluctantly, Becky got up and kissed the wolf on the nose before she walked slowly to me. Then the wolf’s head sank to the ground. With Becky safe in my arms, I ran to the barns where Brian, one of our farm workers, was working. "Brian! Come quickly. Becky found a wolf in the bush! I think it has rabies!" I let Becky stay in the house and went back to the bush with Brain. "He has no rabies,"Brian said. "But he’s sure hurt badly. Don’t you think it’s best that I put him out of his misery?" The word "yes"was on my lips, when Becky appeared from the bush. "Is Brian going to make him well, Mama?"She put the animal’s head onto her lap once more, and buried her face in its dark fur. I said nothing. That afternoon my husband, Bill, and our veterinarian came to see the wolf. The animal must have been over five feet long and well over a hundred pounds. Bullets had hurt the wolf’s leg. The veterinarian did what he had to in order to clean the wound and then gave the wolf some medicine. The next day he returned and used a metal stick to replace the missing bone. The veterinarian said. "The wolf looks about three years old. I am surprised that this big animal likes your little girl, but often there’s something that goes on between children and animals that we grown-ups don’t understand."(To be continued) Notes: 1. reluctantly adv.不情愿地 2. barn n.谷仓 3. rabies n.狂犬病用心 爱心 专心3 4. misery n.痛苦 5. veterinarian n.兽医[影音留声 ] Super heroes on the Big Screen(I...
