The ancient Olympic Games were held every four years in summer in Greece. Only Greece free-citizens (公民) could take part. Slaves were not allowed to compete. And only men and boys could compete in the ancient Olympic Games. Women could take part in chariot races (敞篷马车比赛) with horses but this was the only time they could join in. Married women were not even allowed to watch the games. If they try to watch the games, they could be put to death. The winners got wreaths made of olive leaves. They didn’t receive money but they could get presents from their hometowns. There was no Winter Olympic Games in the ancient Olympic Games. There were many events, such as boxing, running, horse riding, wrestling(摔跤). And the motto of the ancient Olympic Games was also “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”.Ⅵ Homework1.
