This study aims to investigate the effect of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia on cognitive function in elderly rats and to test the intervention effect of curcumin. Twenty-four 18-month-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group, curcumin group, sevoflurane group, and curcumin + sevoflurane group. The rats in the four groups received different treatments and then underwent Morris water maze test, Y-maze test, and novel object recognition test. The results showed that sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia had a significant effect on cognitive function in elderly rats, manifested as a decline in learning, memory, and spatial orientation abilities; while curcumin could significantly alleviate the effect of sevoflurane on cognitive function in elderly rats. Therefore, the results of the study indicate that curcumin may have the potential to protect cognitive function in the elderly and may have important clinical application value in anesthesia surgery in the elderly.Keywords: sevoflurane, elderly rats, cognitive function, curcumin, intervention
