The Application of Non-directive Teaching Mode in Primary and Secondary School TeachingAbstract Due to the continuous development of educational psychology, the application of educational psychology is becoming increasingly wide. A mushrooming number of the teaching modes of English classes used in primary and secondary schools came into being. The emergence of the non-directive teaching mode has switched the roles of teachers and students in the classroom. Teachers have changed from the dominant role in the classroom to the facilitator of students’ learning, while students have become the dominant role in the classroom. This kind of teaching mode is becoming commoner over time in primary and secondary schools. The non-directive teaching mode turns English classes in primary and secondary schools more flexible. Teachers can cultivate students’ good learning habits through more means with the help of the non-directive teaching mode.Based on Rogers’ humanistic education thought, this paper explores the positive effects of non-directive teaching mode on English teaching in primary and secondary schools through the author’s experiments and observations on non-directive teaching Imode during his teaching internship. After observation and analysis, it can be found that the non-directive teaching mode does have effects on students both in and out of class, which is embodied in the improvement of students’ enthusiasm in class and after-class learning.
