However, the quality of subtitle translation of the current sitcoms varies. In recent years, the Relevance Translation Theory has been found powerfully in interpreting subtitle translation of foreign film and television dramas. Guided by the Relevance Translation Theory, this paper finds that the folk subtitle group that follows the Relevance Translation Theory is closer to the original humorous effect. When translating linguistic humor, cultural humor, and universal humor, the folk subtitle group flexibly adopts translation strategies of direct translation, indirect translation, and the combination of the two to obtain the optimal relevance.
