They just listen to the lecture, and the professor keeps speaking. Even when the professor asks something to the students, nobody answers unless the professor calls his or her name. And even if the professor points at someone and calls a name, sometimes the person just says, "I don't know," because they do not have much confidence about whether the answer is true or reasonable and they are afraid of making mistakes.
