When you heat a metal，it expands. 金属加热会膨胀。When you cool a metal，it contracts. 金属受冷会收缩。1) expand 动词，表示“扩大，增大，扩展，使…变大”，还可表示“伸展，伸开，张开，展开”。e.g. (1) Metals expand when they are heated.金属受热会膨胀。(2) Our foreign trade has expanded greatly in recent years.我们的对外贸易近年来有了很大发展。(3) The petals of the flowers expanded in the sunshine.花瓣在阳光下张开了。2) 动词 contract，表示“缩小，缩短”或“紧缩，收缩”e.g. (1) Metals contract as they get cooler. 金属遇冷收缩。(2) ‘I will’ can be contracted to ‘ I’ll’ .I will 可缩写为 I’ll.(3) The tunnel contracts to a narrow passageway as you go deeper. 再往里走，隧道缩小成了一条狭窄的通道。2. Steel is a mixture of iron and other substances.钢是铁和其他物质的混合体。1) mixture 名词，作“混合，混合状态”讲时是不可数名词，作“混合的物体”讲时是可数名词，另外还可以表示化学上的“混合物”，此时只用单数形式。e.g. (1) The city is a mixture of old and new buildings.这个城市是个新旧建筑物的混合体。 (2) Air is a mixture，not a compound，of gases.用心 爱心 专心 空气是多种气体的混合体，不是化合物。2) 词汇扩展：mix 动词，有如下意思：a. “混合或掺和”，此时直接接名词或代词作宾语.mix sth. / mix sth. with …b. “能相混合；结合适当”，此时是不及物动词。 mix with …(1)The che...
