Cultures awareness: A typical English paragraph includes three parts: the topic sentence, the developing sentences and the concluding sentence, which is different from writing in Chinese. Learning& teaching focus: 1.Understanding what topic sentence is: Every paragraph needs a topic sentence, which is usually the first sentence of the paragraph. It gives the readers an idea of what the paragraph is going to be about.. 2.Learning to write a good topic sentence of a paragraph. There ’re four tips on writing topic sentences: a. Topic sentence is usually the first sentence of a paragraph. b. Topic sentence should tell the main idea of a paragraph. c. Topic sentence should not be too broad or too narrow. d. Topic sentence should be simple and clear. Anticipated difficulties: It may be difficult for students to know whether the topic sentence they write is the proper one or not. Solutions: 1.Lead students to choose the proper topic sentence for different paragraphs and explain why it is a good topic sentence. 2.Offer students sufficient and related materials to practice writing topic sentences. 3.
