The accuracy of the potentiometer is high and it can avoid the errors made when wires of power meters are connected. But operating the potentiometer is very complex. And it is not easy to achieve measuring automatically. Today, the instrument for measuring the voltage is replaced by digital voltmeters. The digital voltmeter has high internal resistance and it can measure the voltage automatically. So it is used widely. Nevertheless, the potentiometer still has its important value of experiment as a typical application of the compensation method. In addition, comparing DC-potentiometer is still the most accurate instrument measuring the high voltage. And it is often used as the standard instrument in the test of digital voltmeters and other precisely-measuring-voltage instruments.
