The government is the main regulatory body responsible for ensuring food safety, but numbers of food safety scandals have shown a lack of effective regulations. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have emerged as an important force to supervise and promote food safety regulation. However, there is still a lack of research on the effectiveness of NGOs in food safety regulation and how they can better participate in the regulatory process.Research Questions:1. What are the current roles and challenges of NGOs in food safety regulation in China?2. What strategies can NGOs adopt to better participate in food safety regulation in China?Methodology:This research will use a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Firstly, a literature review will be conducted on the roles and challenges of NGOs in food safety regulation, both in China and abroad. Face-to-face or telephone surveys will be conducted with NGOs involved in food safety regulation in China to collect relevant data and opinions. In-depth interviews with representatives from NGOs, government agencies, and industry associations will also be conducted to explore their viewpoints and experiences. Finally, case-studies of successful NGO participation in food safety regulation will be analyzed to identify effective strategies.Expected Outcomes:This study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the effectiveness of NGO participation in food safety regulation and how NGOs can better participate in the regulatory process.
