However, the mechanism of SO2 action is not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of H2O2 and NO in SO2-induced DNA methylation variation in Arabidopsis thaliana. The results showed that SO2 could induce DNA methylation variation in Arabidopsis, and both H2O2 and NO could promote its occurrence. Further experiments demonstrated that H2O2 and NO might affect the occurrence of DNA methylation variation by regulating the activity of DNA methylation-modifying enzymes. These results provide new clues for understanding the biological effects of SO2 and its mechanism.Keywords: SO2, DNA methylation variation, H2O2, NO
