As a comprehensive theoretical system, it is not only regarded as a valuable heritage of medical knowledge, but also an essential cultural treasure of China. Therefore, it is important to translate Huangdi Neijing Suwen into English in order to introduce TCM to a wider audience. However, due to the complicated syntax and usage of function words in the text, it is challenging to accurately convey the original meaning. ObjectivesThis research aims to investigate the common function words in Huangdi Neijing Suwen and explore their translation strategies, with a focus on the use of English. MethodologyA mixed-method approach will be employed in this research, including a quantitative analysis of the frequency of function words and a qualitative analysis of their usage and translation. Firstly, a corpus of Huangdi Neijing Suwen will be compiled and analyzed using corpus linguistics techniques to identify the most common function words. Secondly, a sample of the selected function words will be analyzed in detail with the aim of understanding their underlying meanings and translating them appropriately. Finally, translations of the selected passages will be compared to evaluate the translation strategies used in conveying the original meaning.SignificanceThis research will contribute to a better understanding of the function words in Huangdi Neijing Suwen and provide translation strategies for these words, which can help to improve the accuracy and authenticity of TCM translation.
