Daphne giraldii Nitsche is a gynodioecious plant with both homostyle and heterostyle populations. In this study, we compared the genetic structure and environmental factors between homostyle and heterostyle populations of D. giraldii Nitsche to explore their origin and evolution. The results showed that there was significant difference in genetic structure between homostyle and heterostyle populations, which was related to geographic distance and environmental factors. Homostyle populations showed higher genetic diversity and within-population genetic variation, while heterostyle populations showed higher inter-population genetic differentiation. This indicated that homostyle and heterostyle populations of D. giraldii Nitsche experienced different selection pressures and gene flow restrictions during evolution, leading to the difference in genetic structure. Our results will contribute to a better understanding of the evolution and mechanism of flower style in plants.Key words: flower style; genetic structure; genetic diversity; environmental factors; evolution mechanism
