This article aims to explore the effects of estrogen on neurogenesis in the brains of female mice and the potential ways in which these effects are exerted. Firstly, the effects of estrogen on neurogenesis will be reviewed, specifically the role of estrogen in the morphology of neural cells, neural connections, and neural cell numbers in the brains of female mice. Secondly, the potential pathways through which estrogen affects neurogenesis will be discussed, such as interacting with receptors ERα, ERβ, and regulating signal pathways and gene expression.
