In this paper, we will explore the concept of intrinsic motivation and its significance in high school English learning. We will also discuss the methods and strategies that can be employed by teachers, parents, and students themselves to cultivate intrinsic motivation in the English learning process.Literature Review:Studies have shown that students who are intrinsically motivated to learn are more likely to achieve academic success, develop positive attitudes towards learning, and demonstrate higher levels of creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and persistence. On the other hand, students who rely mainly on extrinsic motivators such as grades, rewards, and punishments tend to have lower self-esteem, lower achievement scores, higher levels of anxiety and stress, and a diminished sense of competence.Methodology:To investigate the factors that affect intrinsic motivation in high school English learning, we will conduct semi-structured interviews with 20 high school students who have high and low levels of intrinsic motivation in English learning.
