This study aims to investigate the sources and effects of English learning anxiety among high school students in China. The research will be conducted among high school students in different cities, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. A questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews will be conducted to collect data. By analyzing the data, the study intends to provide suggestions for educators and practitioners to better alleviate students’ English learning anxiety and improve their English learning performance.IntroductionWith the globalization of communication and the acceleration of international exchanges, English has become an essential tool for people of all ages to communicate with the world. For high school students in China, excellent English proficiency is not only a requirement for college entrance exams but also a fundamental skill for their future career development. However, a growing number of high school students feel frustrated and even stressed about their English learning, which is called English learning anxiety (Saito & Samimy, 2024).
