However, many students are struggling with writing effective and cohesive essays due to the complexity of the English language. One promising approach to help students improve their writing proficiency is the use of pre-fabricated language chunk patterns. These patterns are common phrases or expressions that are used repeatedly in English writing, and by learning and practicing them, students can improve their ability to write coherently and fluently.Despite the potential benefits of using pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in English writing instruction, little empirical research has been conducted on this topic in the context of high school education. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in high school English writing instruction.Research Questions1. What are the most commonly used pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in high school English writing?2. Do students improve their writing proficiency when they are taught and practice pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in their English writing instruction?MethodologyThis study will employ a mixed-methods research design. Firstly, a corpus analysis will be conducted on a sample of high school English essays to identify the most frequently used pre-fabricated language chunk patterns. Secondly, a quasi-experimental study will be conducted to investigate the effectiveness of teaching and practicing pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in English writing instruction. A group of students will receive the traditional writing instruction, while another group of students will receive the same instruction but with an added focus on pre-fabricated language chunk patterns. Pre- and post-tests will be administered to both groups to measure their writing proficiency before and after the instruction. Finally, interviews and student reflections will be collected to provide qualitative data on students' experience and perception of using pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in English writing instruction.Expected ContributionsThis study will provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of using pre-fabricated language chunk patterns in high school English writing instruction, which can inform and enhance teaching practices.
