There are many classic characters in dead souls, among which the most outstanding are the protagonist Chichikov and the five landowners he visits, as well as the bureaucratic image. This paper first discusses the background of the creation of the dead souls. Then it summarizes the five landowners of Manilov, Kolobochka, Nozdrev, Sobakevich and Prushkin in dead souls, and presents the image of the Russian bureaucracy at that time.
