浙江省诸暨市草塔中学高中英语 Unit 5 First aid First aid hero saves his dad's life 素材 新人教版必修 5A young first aid hero was able to s ave his father’s life following a heart attack, thanks to his Red Cross first aid training.Fifteen-year-old Mitchell Holmes, from Southampton, did not panic when his dad suddenly fell down because of a heart attack. Instead, remembering his training, the young man immediately started to give his stricken father cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) ( 心 肺 复 苏 ) treatment, whic h helped keep him alive until paramedics (护理人员) arrived.Mitchell said: “When I saw what was happening, instinct (本能) took over. Since I’d taken two Red Cross first aid courses, it was all quite fresh in my mind. I gave my dad CPR until the ambulance came and the paramedics took over. They said it must have been a di fficult thing to do for such a close relative but I didn’t feel scared at the time — I just knew what I had to do.”Following the young hero’s swift action, his father Jeffrey (48) underwent a heart operation but has since made a full recovery. Recognizing his bravery, a teacher at Mitchell’ s school, put his name forward for the British Red Cross’ Humanitarian Citizen Awards. Mitchell has now been nominated (提名) for a prize at the award ceremony, which will take place in London on 17 November.The annual British Red Cross Humanitarian C itizen Awards celebrate the actions of young people aged 25 and under who have made a positive difference to someone’s life or their community (社区).
