In this thesis, 5 items which are used to value the mill performance of shape control were defined, such as gap adjustment area, gap transversal stiffness, shape control efficacy, edge drop, and the control ability of roll bending. Additionally, fast finite element simulation models of several typical cold rolling mills which were popular in the world nowadays, for example, HC, CVC, DSR and PC, were established and their shape control performances were analyzed detailedly. Key Words: Cold rolling mill, Shape control, Finite element method1. IntroductionThe strip flatness is the most important quality index of cold rolling strip and it’s coating product. Because strip flatness affects the productivity, cost and product’s appearance of following industries like motorcar, electrical appliance, instrument, food cashing, and so on. In a word it affects the market competition of strip products. The flatness of strip used to make refrigerator must be lower than 2mm; and the center wave’s height of coating strip is limited below 0.25mm. And an excellent flatness is an important precondition for the stability of following strip procession. The velocity of modern CAPL is as high as 800m/min.
