美国总统及中国总理演讲稿北师大版必修2SpeechGivenbyColinLucasatBeijingUniversity(科林·卢卡斯在北京大学的演说)牛津大学副校长科林·卢卡斯在北京大学的演说LadiesandGentlemen,DearColleagues:BecauseIamtheVice-Chancelloroftheoldestoftheforeignuniversitiesrepresentedheretoday,Ihavebeenchosentospeakontheirbehalf.Iampleasedtobetheirvoiceinpresentingourheartfeltcongratulationstotheprofessors,teachers,researchersandstudentsofPekingUniversityonthe100thanniversaryofitsfoundation.Ouruniversitiesformagreatintellectualcommunityroundtheworld.Sciencehasnonationality;knowledgebelongstoeveryone.Ouruniversitiescreatnewknowledge.Theyteahthisknowledge,togetherwiththatofotheruniversitiesandalsothebestofthegreatstorehouseofknowledge,whichthosewhocamebeforeushaveuncovered,testedandaccumulated.Alluniversitiescontibutetotheprosperityandsuccessoftheircountry.Theyalsoconservethecultureandinheritancespecifictotheircountry'scivization.But,theydomore.Knowledgeissecureonlywhenitishardwonbytheindependenttestsofaccuracy,rationalexplanationandture.So,whenweteachourstudentsskills,wealsogivethemvalues.Ontheoneside,thesearevaluesforpersonalandcivicconduct.Ontheotherside,thesevaluesunderwritethepersonalneedforindependentunderstandingwhichisthesourceofhumancreativity.Thesedutiesgiveuniversitiesahighresponsibility.Theyarerootedinagreatandfinetraditionofhonesty.universityisabeaconoflightinitsownsocietyand,byitsassociationwithitssisters,itsknowledgeanditsvaluesarespreadwide.Atraditionisnotbuilteasilyirquickly.Duringonehundredyears,PekingUniversityhasbeenfashioningitstradition.PresentandfuturemembersoftheUniversity!Wehopetoseeyouelaborateandconsolidateyourtradition.Wehopetoseeyoubecomeakeystoneoftheintellectualcommunity.Inyournextcentury,wehopetoseeyoucontributetotheinternationalacademicmovementasawhole,asmoreandmoreofyounumberscometopaticipateintheactivitiesofyoursisteruniversities.Congratulations,PekingUniversityonyourfirstcenturyofachievement!IHaveaDreambyMartinLutherKing,Jr.Iamhappytojoinwithyoutodayinwhatwillgodowninhistoryasthegreatestdemonstrationforfreedominthehistoryofournation.Fivescoreyearsago,agreatAmerican,inwhosesymbolicshadowwestandtoday,signedtheEmancipationProclamation.ThismomentousdecreecameasagreatbeaconlightofhopetomillionsofNegroslaveswhohadbeensearedintheflamesofwitheringinjustice.Itcameasajoyousdaybreaktoendthelongnightoftheircaptivity.Butonehundredyearslater,theNegrostillisnotfree.Onehundredyearslater,thelifeoftheNegroisstillsadlycrippledbythemanaclesofsegregationandthechainsofdiscrimination.Onehundredyearslater,theNegrolivesonalonelyislandofpovertyinthemidstofavastoceanofmaterialprosperity.Onehundredyearslater,theNegroisstilllanguishedinthecornersofAmericansocietyandfindshimselfanexileinhisownland.Andsowe'vecomeheretodaytodramatizeashamefulcondition.Inasensewe'vecometoournation'scapitaltocashacheck.WhenthearchitectsofourrepublicwrotethemagnificentwordsoftheConstitutionandtheDeclarationofIndependence,theyweresigningapromissorynotetowhicheveryAmericanwastofallheir.Thisnotewasapromisethatallmen,yes,blackmenaswellaswhitemen,wouldbeguaranteedthe"unalienableRights"of"Life,LibertyandthepursuitofHappiness."ItisobvioustodaythatAmericahasdefaultedonthispromissorynote,insofarashercitizensofcolorareconcerned.Insteadofhonoringthissacredobligation,AmericahasgiventheNegropeopleabadcheck,acheckwhichhascomeb...
