The conventional treatment methods include topical and oral medications, but they often have side effects and are not always effective. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a non-invasive and safe alternative to conventional treatments that has gained popularity in recent years. IPL therapy delivers short pulses of broadband light that penetrate the skin and target the bacteria causing acne. However, there is limited research on the efficacy of IPL therapy in treating acne vulgaris in the specific wavelength range of 420nm~950nm. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of IPL therapy in the treatment of acne vulgaris.Methods:This study will be a randomized controlled trial of 60 patients with acne vulgaris. The patients will be randomly assigned into two groups; the experimental group (n=30) will receive 6 sessions of IPL therapy at 4-week intervals, while the control group (n=30) will receive a placebo treatment with no light exposure. The IPL device used in this study will emit light in the wavelength range of 420nm to 950nm with a pulse duration of 20ms and a fluence of 20J/cm^2. The primary outcome measure will be the change in the acne lesion count using the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) score at the end of the treatment and 6 weeks post-treatment. The secondary outcome measure will be the improvement in the Quality of Life (QOL) of patients measured using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire.Results:The results of this study will be evaluated using statistical analysis. The significance level will be set at P<0.05 for all statistical tests.Conclusion:The results of this study will contribute to the knowledge of the efficacy of IPL therapy in the treatment of acne vulgaris.
