Firstly, the synthetic methods including the reaction between trimethyltin and iodine and the reaction between silane and iodinated alkane are introduced. Secondly, the commonly used characterization methods including infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance are introduced. Finally, the application of trimethylsilyl iodide as an electrophilic reagent, catalyst or group transfer reagent in organic synthesis and as a surface modifier, photochromic material in material science are summarized. This paper aims to systematically introduce the synthesis method, characterization method and application of trimethylsilyl iodide, providing reference for researchers. 【Keywords】trimethylsilyl iodide; synthetic methods; characterization methods; application.
