These studies have identified a number of common errors made by these learners, including overgeneralization, interference from the Chinese language, and incorrect use of collocations.One study by Chen (2024) found that Chinese learners often use articles and prepositions interchangeably due to the lack of equivalent structures in Chinese. Another study by Zhang (2024) identified the problem of overgeneralization where Chinese learners apply the rules they have learned in one context to all other contexts without considering the differences between them.Teaching strategies proposed by researchers include focusing on the meaning and context of the articles and prepositions, providing ample practice opportunities, and 精品文档---下载后可任意编辑raising awareness of the common errors made by Chinese learners.MethodologyThis study will use a mixed methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data. A sample of 100 Chinese university students studying English as a foreign language will be selected randomly to participate in the study. A written test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions on English articles and prepositions will be administered to collect quantitative data on the errors made by the students.In addition, a semi-structured interview will be conducted with a smaller sample of 10 students to gain a deeper understanding of the causes of these errors and the effectiveness of teaching strategies currently used in the classroom.ConclusionThis study will contribute to the ongoing research on the difficulties Chinese learners of English face in the use of articles and prepositions. By identifying the common errors and their underlying causes, this study will provide valuable insights to language teachers and curriculum designers on effective strategies for teaching these grammar elements.
