The synthesized titanium montmorillonite was used to catalyze the esterification reaction of diethyl phthalate, and the effects of catalyst dosage, reaction time and temperature on the reaction product were investigated. The results showed that the titanium-crosslinked montmorillonite catalyst had high activity and could achieve a high esterification conversion rate at a lower temperature. In addition, the synthesized titanium montmorillonite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, transmission electron microscopy and other means. It was found that the synthesized material had a high specific surface area and pore volume, and its crystal structure was not significantly damaged.Key words: titanium-crosslinked montmorillonite; acid-catalyzed reaction; catalytic properties; characterization
