Students who are not proficient in English may face numerous challenges when it comes to communicating and learning in the English language. Non-English major college students might face significant language barriers that could lead to feelings of anxiety and frustration. English listening anxiety is one of the most common issues that non-English major college students face. The level of listening anxiety among non-English major college students may vary based on their personal experiences, academic background, exposure to English, and cultural background. This study seeks to examine the level of English listening anxiety among non-English major college students.Objective: The objective of this study is to explore the level of English listening anxiety among non-English major college students and investigate the factors that contribute to listening anxiety.Hypothesis: Non-English major college students experience high levels of listening anxiety when learning English, which is attributed to several factors such as low self-confidence, insufficient exposure to English, academic and cultural differences.Methodology: The study will use a quantitative research design. Participants will be selected from non-English major college students in China. The sample will consist of 200 participants who will be selected using a random sampling approach. Data will be collected using a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire will comprise of items that relate to participants' English listening anxiety, self-confidence, exposure to English, academic and cultural differences. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and regression analysis.Expected outcomes: The expected outcomes of the research are to reveal the level of English listening anxiety among non-English major college students and identify factors that contribute to English listening anxiety. The findings of the study would inform policymakers and educators on ways to design appropriate strategies that could help alleviate English listening anxiety among non-English major college students.Conclusion: The study has the potential to contribute to developing effective approaches to combating English listening anxiety among non-English major college students. The results will provide insights into the factors contributing to English listening anxiety; this would help educators develop effective strategies to address and alleviate this anxiety among non-English major college students.
