In China, English is one of the core subjects in high schools, and oral English is a crucial aspect of language learning. However, the traditional oral English teaching methods in China tend to focus on grammar and vocabulary memorization, rather than practical communication skills. Therefore, a new teaching approach is needed to improve students’ oral English proficiency.Objectives:The main objective of this research is to explore the effectiveness of task-based oral English teaching methods in high schools. Specifically, the following objectives will be pursued:- To identify the current status of oral English teaching in high schools in China,- To investigate the advantages and disadvantages of task-based oral English teaching methods,- To evaluate the effectiveness of task-based oral English teaching methods,- To propose best practices for implementing task-based oral English teaching methods.Methodology:This study will be conducted in two stages. The first stage will involve a literature review to explore the current status of oral English teaching in high schools in China and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of task-based teaching methods. The second stage will involve a survey research design. Primary data will be collected through a survey questionnaire completed by high school English teachers and students in China. The qualitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, while Inferential statistics, such as paired-samples t-tests or ANOVA, will be used to analyze the differences in students' performance before and after being taught using the task-based oral English teaching methods.Expected Outcomes:The findings of this study will help to identify the current status of oral English teaching in high schools in China and provide evidence for the effectiveness of task-based oral English teaching methods in promoting students' oral English proficiency. The results will contribute to the development of best practices for task-based oral English teaching in high schools and provide recommendations for improving English education.
