However, the effectiveness of English language education in Chinese schools has been the subject of much debate, and there is a growing concern about the lack of vocabulary acquisition among high school students. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of different task demands on incidental vocabulary acquisition among high school students in their English reading.Objective:The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of different task demands, specifically different reading comprehension tasks, on incidentally acquired vocabulary among high school students in their English reading. The study aims to answer the following research questions:1. How does the task demand, specifically different reading comprehension tasks, affect incidental vocabulary acquisition among high school students in their English reading?2. Does vocabulary size and English proficiency of students affect the incidental vocabulary acquisition in different reading comprehension tasks?Methodology:The study will be conducted in two high schools in a Chinese city to recruit participants. The sample will be selected using a convenience sampling method, and the participants will be 100 high school students in grades 10 and 11, who are studying English as a compulsory subject.The participants will be divided into four groups, and each group will complete a different reading comprehension task.
