iAbstract With the deeply development of globalization, countries all over the world deepen exchanges and cooperation. Translation, as a bridge of communication, plays an important role on the world stage. Since the reform and opening up, China's comprehensive national strength has increased significantly, which has attracted more and more attention from the international community. More and more people around the world want to be aware of the policies of the Chinese government. The annual government work report reviews the work and achievements of the government in the previous years, and makes an overall plan for the work in the coming year or even the next five years. As the authoritative information source of the Chinese government, it is a successful way for the rest of the world to get it China's actual conditions. From this point of view, the English translation of the government work report is of great significance.This paper is grounded on Nida’ s functional equivalence theory to undertake an in-depth study on English translation strategies, using the translation examples of the 2019 government work report. The purpose of this paper is to generalize a set of practical translation procedures and translation methods so as to guide future scholars in the field of translating government work report into English.
