DilipK,et.al.InternationalJournalofEngineeringResearchandApplicationswww.ijera.comISSN:2248-9622,Vol.11,Issue7,(Series-V)July2021,pp.32-41mDOI:10.9790/9622-1|PagABSTRACT:Recently,VLSItechnologyhasimprovedsignificantlyandmoretransistorscanbeincorporatedinachip.ASystemon-Chip(SOC)Configurationhavenumberofblocksareintegratedonasinglechip.NumerousblocksareintegratedinsingleIC,buttoaccesstheirfunction,theyrequiresapowerfulcommunicationarchitecture.Thiscanonlybeachievedbyusingon-chipbusarchitecturetomeettheirrequirements.DifferentCompanieshasvariouson-ChipBusarchitecturesbutoneofthemostsuitablearchitectureisAMBAbyARM.AMBAconsistofthreebuses,namely,AdvancedSystemBus(ASB),AdvancedPeripheralBus(APB)andAdvancedHighPerformanceBus(AHB).whencomparedtoothertwobusesAHBishighperformance,highbandwidthandforhighclockfrequencysystemmodulestheSystemdesignersselectAHBastheirprimarychoice.TheAHB(AdvancedHigh-performanceBus)isasuperiorbusinAMBA(AdvancedMicrocontrollerBusArchitecture)family.Itisanormforintercommunicationofmodulesinaframework.TheAHB(AdvanceHighperformance)busStandardsarecharacterizedbyARMwhichsupportsforthecommunicationofon-chipmemories,processorsandinterfacesofexternaloff-chipmemory.Herethebasicblockssuchasmaster,slave,decoder,andarbiterareusedtodesignandverifyanAHBthatsupportsmultiplesmasterandmultiplesslave.Theconventionalwayofverificationissimulationbased.AstheTechnologyimprovesthecomplexityofIC’shasbeenincreased.Thus,timespentonverificationhasalsobeenincreased.ThemainfocusistodesignofAHBprotocolinVerilogandverifyusingHardwareverificationlanguagesuchasSystemVerilogandstandardMethodologysuchasUniversalVerificationMethodology(UVM).QuestaSim(AdvancedverificationtoolfromMentorGraphics)isanEDAtoolusedtosimulateandverifythedesignandobtainCoveragereport.RESEARCHARTICLEOPENACCESSDesignandVerificationofAHBProtocolUsingSystemVerilogandUniversalVerificationMethodology(UVM)DilipK*,VijayaPrakashAM**M.Tech,DepartmentofECE,BangaloreInstituteofTechnology,Karnataka,India*ProfessorDepartmentofECE,BangaloreInstituteofTechnology,Karnataka,IndiaDateofSubmission:10-07-2021DateofAcceptance:26-07-2021I.INTRODUCTION1.1AboutAMBAbusTheAMBAisanAdvancedMicrocontrollerBusArchitecturedefinedbyARM,itisanopenstandardwidelyusedforanon-chipbussystem.ThestandardisintendstosimplifythecomponentdesignbyallowingtheuseofinterchangeablepartsthewithintheSoCstyle.Itpromotestheuseofholdingparts,sothataminimumofaneighborhoodoftheSoCcanbereconstructed,insteadofhavingtorewriteitentirelyeachtime.AHB(AdvancedHigh-performanceBus),ASB(AdvancedSystemBus),andAPB(AdvancedPeripheralBus)arethebusgroupsdefinedintheAMBAAHB.TheAHBisemployedforhigh-performance,highfrequencyarchitecture.TheseapplicationsincludesareARMcoresandhigh-speedRAMinsidethesystem,NandFlash,DMAandBridgelinks.[1]TheAPBisusedforconnectingexternaldevicessuchasUART,keypadandtimer,andhaslowperformancerequirements,whileitisusedforoptimizingpowerconsumption.AMBAistheStandardbus-basedmicrocontrollertypicalfeatureahigh-performancesystemhubbus(AHBorASB)thatsupportsforexternalmemorybandwidth,includingCPUs,on-chipmemories,andotherdirectdataaccess(DMA)devices.Formostofthetransmissionbetweenvariousunits,suchasCPUs,on-chipmemories,andDMA,thebusservesasahighbandwidthinterface.Fig.1:AMBAbusBlockDiagramDilipK,et.al.InternationalJournalofEngineeringResearchandApplicationswww.ijer...
