R.Tan,G.Cao,andN.León(Eds.):CAI2009,IFIPAICT304,pp.108–116,2009.©IFIPInternationalFederationforInformationProcessing2009ThePromptDesignofCNCGrinderBasedonFlexibleProductPlatformDequanGan,PingJiang,HuangaoZhang,andZishunChenSchoolofMechanicalEngineering,HebeiUniversityofTechnology,300130,Tianjin,China{Dequan.Gan,Ping.Jiang,Huangao.Zhang,Zishun.Chen,Jiangping}@hebut.edu.cnAbstract.Inmasscustomizationtheproductplatformisthepowermethodtoimprovethereusedabilityofexistingdesignresource.Buttothehighdegreemodularityproduct,themodulelimitsthecommonalityofproductplatform.Theflexibleproductplatformsolvestheconflictofmodularity’svarietyandcommonality.Theplatformparametersdenotethecommonpropertiesofprod-uctplatformanddifferentvaluesofthoseparametersrealizetheflexibleofproductplatform.Thentheparameter-independentmodulescanbecombinedintoaphysicalproductplatformandextendtosatisfymuchmoremarketseg-ments.TheflexibleproductplatformofCNCgrinderimprovesthereutilizationandguidesthedesignerpromptlytodeveloptheindividualCNCgrinderforpersonalcustomerneeds.Keywords:Flexibleproductplatform,Platformparameter,CNCgrinder,PromptDesign.1IntroductionMasscustomizationisdefinedasadeliveryprocessthroughwhichmass-marketgoodsandservicesareindividualizedtosatisfyaveryspecificcustomerneed,atanaffordableprice.Basedonthepublic’sgrowingdesireforproductpersonalization,itservesastheultimatecombinationof“custom-made”and“massproduction”[1].Masscustomizationisoptimizedtobuildawiderangeofproductsatthelowestpos-siblecostanddeliverthemquickly.Itrequiresthatcompaniesdesignproductsfromthepointofcommonality,compatibility,standardization,ormodularizationamongdifferentproductsorproductlines[2].Soproductfamilyandproductplatformarethebasesofmasscustomization.Productfamilyisdefinedasagroupofrelatedproductsthatsharecommonfeatures,components,andsubsystems;andsatisfyavarietyofmarketniches[3].Theproductplatformisdefinedasasetofsubsystemsandinter-facesthatformacommonstructurefromwhichastreamofrelatedproductscanbedevelopedandproducedefficientlywithinagivenproductfamily[4].Hencetheproductplatformhastwocharacters:modularityandstandardization[5].Modularityembodiestheflexiblepropertyanditmeansthatdiversemodulescanbuildupintoaserialofproductstocaterfordifferentmarketsegments.Standardiza-tionrepresentsthestabilityandtheproductplatformdemandshighlycommonalityofThePromptDesignofCNCGrinderBasedonFlexibleProductPlatform109modulesamongtheproductfamilytoimprovethereusedabilityofproductstructures.Fromtheviewofmasscustomization,modularityrealizesthecustomizationandstandardizationimplementsmassproduction.Ineithercase,platformcomponents,systemsorprocessesendupconstrainingthevariants’design:becauseofthere-quirementthataplatformcomponentorprocessisidenticalinallvariants,customizedcomponentsarenecessarilydesignedtobecompatiblewiththeplatform;indeed,therangeofpossible(ordesirable)customizationintheentireproductfamilyisdictatedbytheplatform[6].Thenthedegreeofmodularityishighermayresultlowerofthestandardizationfortoomanymodulescanimplementsomuchvarietyandtherela-tionsofmodulesbecomecomplexandinfluencethecommonalityofmodules.Sothispaperintroduceflexibleelementtobuildupaflexibleproductplatform.Theflexibleelementsarerelatedtomainproductcharacteristicwhichisgeneralizedaccordingtothecustomerneeds.Themainproductcharacteristicisthecorerequire-mentsofcu...
