Copyright © 2003 by the Audio Engineering SocietyAbstractThe format provides for the serial digital transmission of two channels of periodically sampled and uniformlyquantized audio signals on a single shielded twisted wire pair. The transmission rate is such that samples ofaudio data, one from each channel, are transmitted in time division multiplex in one sample period. Provision ismade for the transmission of both user and interface related data as well as of timing related data, which may beused for editing and other purposes. It is expected that the format will be used to convey audio data that havebeen sampled at any of the sampling frequencies recognized by the AES5, Recommended Practice forProfessional Digital Audio Applications Employing Pulse-Code Modulation — Preferred SamplingFrequencies. An AES standard implies a consensus of those directly and materially affected by its scope and provisions andis intended as a guide to aid the manufacturer, the consumer, and the general public. The existence of an AESstandard does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether or not he or she has approved the document, frommanufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not in agreement with thestandard. Prior to approval, all parties were provided opportunities to comment or object to any provision.Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this AES standard or information documentmay be the subject of patent rights...
