In order to ensure the safe operation of transmission lines, they must be protected. The traditional protection methods can only be applied to symmetrical transmission lines and cannot be applied to asymmetrical transmission lines. Therefore, this paper will analyze the distance protection of asymmetric transmission lines and put forward solutions.First of all, this paper will analyze the characteristics of asymmetric transmission lines and the limitations of traditional distance protection methods. Then, a new protection method, differential distance protection, will be introduced. This method can be successfully applied to the protection of asymmetric transmission lines, and has higher accuracy and reliability.
